The Indian financial services space seems to be in a sweet spot as foreign investors have made a net investment of Rs 14,205 crore ($2.1 billion) in the sector in November amid strong credit growth and manageable non-performing loan portfolio. The investment comes following a net withdrawal of Rs 4,686 crore from financial services stocks in October on account of profit booking. Overall, foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) have made a net investment of Rs 36,238 crore in the country's equity markets in November.

Sundararaman Ramamurthy has been an interesting choice for the publicly-listed BSE, which has seen its chief move to bigger rival -- the National Stock Exchange (NSE) -- in July. Having spent nearly two decades at the country's largest bourse, Ramamurthy is among the early architects of NSE and understands all the cogs of the exchange wheel like only a few others in the country. RPG Enterprises Chairperson Harsh Goenka on Tuesday said the NCLT should be the next institution to be cleansed by the government to prevent "hard earned public money being stolen" as companies' promoters stash away money on the side and get "80-90% haircut" from bankers during the insolvency resolution process. In an apparent reference to recent cases of insolvency proceedings of some firms wherein creditors have taken huge haircuts on their dues, Goenka said it is the "new game in town". Insolvency resolution plans require approval of the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT).
